7 Office Design Elements that Enhance Performance
It's been widely acknowledged that the design and layout of your office can influence the performance of your staff . A comfortable, motivating, ergonomic office design motivates employees and increases their performance substantially. To help you derive maximum benefit from both your office environment and your staff, we've listed fundamental design elements that you need to consider and incorporate within your new workspace:
Lighting & Daylight
Good lighting is conducive to efficient and positive working conditions. Too much florescent lighting, or not efficiently distributed artificial lighting makes it harder for workers to see their computer screens clearly, and this can hinder employees from working effectively. A good supply of natural light from windows or skylights can increase employee productivity and satisfaction and lower costs whilst improving energy savings at the same time.
Temperature Control
A comfortable office environment needs to be created through the right balance of temperature and airflow. A stuffy office can make employees feel easily tired and sluggish, yet an office that is too cold can cause poor concentration levels as they are more focused on keeping warm than their daily task.
Color
How your employees react to the color scheme of the space has also proven to be an indicative factor in their performance. Brighter colors (reds, as well as blues and greens) are associated with positivity and focus. Where appropriate, try to incorporate the colors of your brand within the workspace to create a good positive impression of your company.
Ergonomics
The office furniture you choose will play a big part in creating a comfortable, flexible and supportive environment. It also ensures you tick all the boxes relating to health and safety within the workplace. The more comfortable your staff feel at work, the better their performance.
Noise
It's not something we necessarily think about when touring office properties, but it does affect how well people can concentrate in their environment. Whether your staff spend time doing concentrated work on their computers, or on the telephone, it's important for background noise not to distract them. Noise from a nearby road, railway or from neighboring tenants are issues to consider when choosing office space.
Zones
Your employees will appreciate a place they to relax during their lunch breaks. They may also benefit from small spaces where they can collaborate and discuss ideas in a relaxed and informal environment.
Layout
The layout of your space will play a big part in how your employees and teams collaborate together. Consider which team members need to communicate more closely and which teams need to work in a quieter area of the office for more concentrated work.
