Guide to Closing an Office
If you are moving to a new office, you will want to be sure your existing office is closed sufficiently and handed back over to the Landlord with minimum fuss and cost.
Here are some issues to consider when moving office to close your "old" office efficiently:
Retrofit
If you have made any changes to the fixtures and fittings, these will need to be put right before handing back over to the Landlord. Discuss these retrofit alterations with your landlord before making any changes.
Office Cleaning
Make sure your office is in a clean state before asking your Landlord to carry out an inspection. It should be clean and free of any junk - otherwise you might incur charges to get your junk removed.
Security Deposit
Make arrangement with the Landlord about the return of your Security Deposit - this is usually on a satisfactory office check-out.
Key fobs and Entrance cards
Collect all key fobs from staff on the last working day and make sure these are signed for so you can keep a tab of whose returned them.
Change of Address Notifications
Don't forget those all-important Change of Address notifications so your clients know your new office contact details, and can get hold of you throughout the move.
We've Moved Sign
It's also a good idea to ask if you can display a "We've Moved" sign on your "old" office. Some clients are bound to forget about your relocation and turn up for a meeting at your old office.
Use the Office Move Checklist to make sure you haven't missed off any important tasks before moving to your new office.
