How to Inform Employees when a Company is Moving
It's never easy managing any sort of change to your business, especially where people are concerned. Whilst an office move can be an exciting time for your staff, it can also hold challenges too. The thought of working (and sitting) somewhere new and the upheaval of an unfamiliar commute to work can make a company relocation a stressful experience for staff.
If you are thinking of relocating offices, here are some helpful tips to make sure the move is a happy and positive experience for your staff:
1. Inform Staff Early
Announce your relocation plans to staff as early as possible, preferably as soon as you have confirmed your plans to relocate the business. This will make them feel important and valued and avoid them hearing about the move from other sources.
2. Method of Communication
The size of your company will often dictate how you choose to inform staff that the company is moving. Where possible, try to hold face to face team / one-and-one meetings. This will give staff opportunity to ask questions and voice any concerns.
3. Keep them Updated
Provide regular updates and progress reports via email, intranet or in meetings. Keeping your employees informed helps them adjust to the idea of relocating and helps them prepare for the move beforehand.
4. Take a Tour
Give staff the opportunity to visit the new office to check out its location and facilities. The tour will help them adjust more quickly, visualize their new environment, and plan their daily commute to work.
5. Get Feedback
When it comes to deciding on your new office space plan and where workstations are to be located, involve staff about seating arrangements. Feedback from them is valuable and they may well offer solutions that are invaluable to working more productively.
