IT Requirements in New Office
Planning an IT Relocation
One of the most complex tasks involved in a business relocation, is planning the relocation of IT equipment, business phones, servers and technical equipment. The infrastructure and setting up of your technology in the new office is vital for your business to be up and running as quickly as possible, without any disruption to services. Without technology, most businesses would be unable to operate. What you do without internet in your new office? Without Phones or access to the network? This is why planning your IT relocation and requirements thoroughly in advance will ensure you're business is fully operational - on the first day!
At least 3 months prior to your office relocation, you will need to establish your IT requirements in the new office. Do a walk-through in the new office to establish the following:
- How many phone points to you need?
- Where do they need to be located (close to workstations)?
- Identify where your PCs are going to be located and determine if you need outlets installed to accommodate your technical equipment
- If you have your own server, is there a dedicated server room with it's own power outlet?
- Is it big enough and temperature controlled?
- Check the network cabling - is it sufficient for your IT needs?
- It must be a minimum of CAT5e or CAT6
- Choose the type of data connection - talk to your telecoms provider to establish which connection type best suits your needs
Don't forget to plan your timing carefully during an IT Relocation. It can take at least 2 weeks for your new service provider to install and get your systems running properly. The IT Relocation Checklist will help you plan these timings correcetly in order to minimize disruption to your business and ensure that all IT equipment is set up, tested and working as it should on the first morning in your new office.
