Moving an office is no easy task, especially in New York City. Here are a few tips on how to move your office in NYC!
1) Assign People to Help:
Having someone designated to communicate with everyone involved in your moving process is important. Also, having an interior designer will be extremely useful when figuring out where to place the furniture in your new building. These people will help the stress levels stay low and productivity to stay high.
2) Get Organized:
Make checklists and stick with them! Once you are done with a task check it off - you will feel so much more productive and accomplished.
3) Set Goals:
Try to set daily, weekly, or even monthly goals for yourself and your team. It will help you stay on task and make it easier to get things done.
4) When to Move:
It might be smart to schedule your move for overnight. Overnight moves will not disrupt your companies productivity and will limit the amount of daylight wasted on moving.
5) Label!!
Be sure to label all of your moving boxes so you know what is in them. Take it one box at a time - I know it seems like a lot but you will get it done, I promise!
6) Separate and Group Items:
Be sure the set aside fragile items to decrease the chances of potential damage. Make sure these items (glassware, computers, phones) are packaged differently than regular items.
7) Communicate With EVERYONE:
Communication is key, not just internally but externally as well. Be sure that the property managers from both locations are up to date on when you are moving out/moving in. Keeping everyone in the loop will ensure an easy, painless transition.
8) Work Together:
It is important to keep your team up to date on the move progression. If everyone is on the same page it will allow this process to run smoother and more efficiently because everyone will know what needs to be done. This will also help reduce the stress and anxiety that come with moving.
9) Help Others While Helping Yourself:
Moving is a great time to get rid of things you no longer need and give them to someone who could get some use out of it. Take this opportunity to encourage your employees to donate unwanted goods to someone who needs it. Arranging your move with a charity organization or even drop it off at Goodwill (there are more than 10 locations in NYC and surrounding areas).
10) IMPORTANT: Reward Yourself.
Make a point to celebrate your hard work once it is done. Give yourself something to look forward to. Whether that be spending time with friends outside, going out to a nice dinner, or even setting aside a night to do nothing but watch movies and eat your favorite food.
