Moving IT Equipment & Infrastructure
IT equipment is essential to the running of your business and it therefore important to plan the relocation of these items well in advance so that when staff arrive to work at the new office, business can resume back to normal quickly without any interruption or downtime.
There are 3 Must-Dos when planning an IT Relocation:
- Call your Telecoms Vendor as soon as you know the moving in date to arrange for services to be transferred and up and running before you move in.
- Check the cabling and infrastructure at the new location to ensure that it meets your requirements and is in full working order.
- Map out where desks are going to be located and subsequently where jacks and electrical outlets will be located.
Relocation of Broadband Lines
Your business will undoubtedly rely on broadband for your business to operate efficiently. Contact your ISP to ensure that you have internet access up and running a few days before you move in - so it can be properly tested.
Computer Cabling
Data cabling is usually not set up in the new premises, and if it is, it is unlikely that it will be according to your IT requirements. Data Cabling is usually best left in the capable hands of an IT Relocation Company who will ensure that everything is correctly labelled, it meets safety codes and is installed correctly. Failure to do so could seriously delay your office move and cause long downtime.
Security Measures Moving IT Equipment
Safety and security should be a priority when it comes to moving IT equipment. Firstly you will need to backup all data so that you have a contingency should the "unforeseen" happen. Secondly, you should take an inventory of all IT equipment and note any damages before anything is moved. The inventory will also help you to get re-established quickly in the new location as you will know which hardware belongs to which cable etc.
Test Plan
Have all data wires, jacks and IT equipment tested prior to staff arriving to ensure a seamless and smooth IT Relocation.
