New Office Requirements
Office Space Requirements
Now that you've made a decision to relocate your business, the first step is to define a relocation strategy and identify all functions that your business needs in order to operate effectively. These areas include size of office space, facilities, technology and operations. This article looks at each of these in turn to help set the foundation for your office space search.
Size of Office Space
To assess the amount of office space you are going to need, do an up-to-date headcount of personnel and assess how many workstations you need for each staff member. Private offices may be another area you need to consider.
Determine the number of conference rooms, IT comms room, kitchen facilities and lobby. Once you have gathered this information, simply input your findings using the FREE Office Space Calcuator and it will calculate the size of office you should be looking for.
New Office Facilities
What facilities do you need in order for your business to function? Areas to consider include a dedicated server room, video conference facilities, IT comms room, and any surplus storage.
When assessing your new office facilities, consider what type of office configuration would best suit your business; if open plan is not an option, looking for an office with cubicles/private offices will narrow down your office space search.
Technology
Most businesses now have a PC on every desk. You should also consider technology requirements for copiers, printers, network scanners and fax machines. Up-front power planning can save you the headache of adding additional electrical circuits in the future.
Use the IT Relocation Checklist to help you plan your technology requirements.
Operations
Think about what issues allow your business to operate successfully. Is the location of your office space important?
Don't forget to consider your staff and how they commute to the office as this will determine whether (and how much) parking allocation you need, or whether you rely on close public transport networks. Your business may also need to be close to other industry related companies, competitors or partners.
