New Office Technology
Technology Needed for your new Office
Maintaining good communication with customers and suppliers is critical both through the office move process and beyond. Most businesses can't afford to miss even a few hours of downtime to operate cost effectively, which is why it's critical to plan your technology requirements well in advance to avoid delays and ensure you have the appropriate technology to meet your business communication requirements.
Business Phones
Assess your phone line requirements for the new space and allow for a sufficient number of spare lines for business growth or in the event of a broken line. Are the location of phone lines in the right place according to your new seating plan. Consult with your office space planner and make sure you have an updated and clear print out of the space plan which clearly labels where all phones lines need to be located. Order new phone and internet lines well in advance as many telecom companies stipulate long lead times. Check whether you are able to take your existing phone number with you when you move office. Do this well in advance. This gives you enough time to set up the new lines and notify all your customers about your new telephone number.
Network
A well designed network infrastructure can provide your business with a robust platform for your network and communication systems. Your IT & Telecom Solutions Provider will help review your existing infrastructure and do the network installation on your behalf. Identify which network cabling is required to meet your technical requirements (cat5e, cat6 or cat6a).
Backup
Having a reliable and secure data backup running is an essential part of an IT system. The backup that you use will depend upon the size of your business and data. Discuss with your IT & Telecom Solution Provider which is the best means of back up to ensure that your data is backed up securely throughout the move and beyond in the new office.
Internet
Make sure you take advantage of wireless LANs in your new office. It allows your business work flexibly with increased mobility and responsiveness and also gives your clients access to a secure wireless network when they visit you. An IT relocation and new office set up needs to have meticulous pre-planning with test plans and contingencies in place to ensure the transfer to the new office goes smoothly. Use this IT Relocation Checklist to make sure nothing important gets forgotten.
