Office Space Planning Guidelines
Every business wants to maximize their office space and ensure that staff can operate at optimum efficiency, and this involves a carefully considered office space plan. The office design should make the most of the available space and create an ambiance that is welcoming and comfortable both for employees and visitors. But the way in which you configure your space also has a big impact on employee morale, communication and productivity.
Here are some Office Space Planning Guidelines for you to follow to ensure you have a workplace that is both practical and efficient:
Accommodate both interaction & individual concentrated work
Some employees will need to interact with other teams on a regular basis on projects etc., whilst others need the privacy and quiet for more concentrated tasks. Ensure you get the right balance and review everyone's needs.
Support Collaboration
Make sure you support your staff in collaborating on projects as this usually results in work getting done quicker and more efficiently. This can be supported through having break out areas where staff can meet together on an informal basis, and more formal meeting rooms for client visits.
Flexibility
Having an office space that is flexible will allow your business to grow and change as your business needs dictate. Use workstations that can be easily reconfigured, introduce hot desking for those employees who are frequently out of the office, and have multi-purpose storage units.
Make best use of Natural Daylight
Your staff will work better near natural daylight. Place workstations close to windows (and views) as this enhances productivity as well as save money on utilities.
Think First Impressions
Consider what image you want to portray to clients and visitors, and make sure this is apparant from your office space plan. If you want a transparant image, you might want to consider all open plan so clients can see staff working away from the lobby area.
You should involve an Office Design Company as early in the process as possible - preferably at the time you are selecting office space, as they can provide advice about whether the space you are considering will adapt well to your proposed office space plan.
