Tips for Planning an Office Move
Don't plan to fail!
If you fail to plan, you are by default planning to fail. An office move is a huge undertaking and takes a lot more organization than you might think, so give yourself plenty of time for planning, finding the right office and negotiating the terms.
Set time aside
Schedule uninterrupted time each day to plan for the office move. Even if there are no tasks outstanding, use this time to go through your office move checklist to check that you're task list is up-to-date, or a catch-up call with your office relocation service providers to check progress.
Anticipate possible problems
There are bound to be things that don't go according to the plan. These are likely to revolve around mechanical or technical issues that are critical to business operations. Having a contingency plan for high-risk situations, such as your IT, will help you provide preventative actions that will ensure business continuity throughout the move.
Keep a Checklist
There's a lot to remember when planning an office move. By keeping a note of everything you think of and ticking things off your checklist as they're completed will help keep your move on track and ensures nothing gets forgotten.
Don't rush
Don't hurry the process or something will get overlooked. Allow yourself enough time to explore different options and make the right decisions.
Set due dates
Use the moving office timeline to establish important dates that will affect your relocation. Remember to be clear about the date you have to be out of your new office and the date you have give notice. Once these are clear, the moving office timeline will identify the rest of the important dates for you.
Meet with the team
Schedule formal planning meetings with your relocation team to discuss progress and ensure objectives are met. Involve your staff on some of these meetings to help them feel involved and to keep lines of communication open throughout the process. For more tips on planning your office move visit our Resource Center.
