Relocating IT Equipment
Relocating IT Equipment during an Office Move
An IT Relocation requires careful thought and planning to ensure that your IT systems are working correctly in the new office. Failure to plan sufficiently could cost your business hours (and even days) if your IT equipment is not working correctly in the new office.
Follow these 5 essential tasks to help plan your IT relocation so that there is no downtime or delays to business being able to get back to normal quickly in the new office:
1. Take an Inventory
Inventory all your IT equipment and business phones. This will help you decide what IT equipment is being relocated, what needs to be recycled, and what needs to be replaced or upgraded.
2. Plan your new IT Network
Find out how your current IT network fits together and use this to plan your IT infrastructure in the new office. All IT infrastructure needs to be set up and tested well in advance of the move.
3. Back up your Data
Make sure your data back up is up-to-date and stored away from the relocation. Make a Business Continuity Plan about how you plan to continue business operations if your technology doesn't work right away.
4. Think Phone Lines!
Order any new phone lines in advance that you will need in the new office and decide where they are best located. Install some additional phone lines for any new staff you may recruit in the coming months/years.
5. Hire an IT Relocation Company
An IT Relocation Company will assist with the planning and relocation of all your IT equipment and help resolve any IT issues that may arise when you get to the new office. Even if you already have an internal IT team, they may not necessarily have the expertise in IT relocation and network infrastructure installations.
Use the IT Relocation Checklist to find out all the issues you need to consider when planning an IT Relocation.
