Relocation Guide for an IT Department
Organizing the transfer of your IT equipment is a complex and time-consuming undertaking, and often goes beyond the expertise and knowledge of an internal IT department. An IT Relocation involves far more than just moving and connecting PCs and phones to the new office, a seamless office move without any downtime, requires advanced planning and assistance from an IT Relocation Company.
Your new office will need to be set up correctly in terms of network cabling and infrastructure at an early stage of the build out, so be sure to take a tour and make a note of what work needs to be done. Consult with your Office Design Team about the location of workstations and establish correct number of phone lines and their location. You will probably need to adjust the location of phone lines to suit your new office space plan and this needs to be done by your telecoms vendor. If new phone lines need ordering, this should be done well advance as many telecom companies stipulate long lead times.
If you have your own server, the new server room may need additional build out specifications to suit the size of your server, along with air conditioning and lighting requirements.
Consider the logistics of how and when you are going to disconnect your PCs in the old office and label them accordingly and the time it will take to get everything set up in the new office. Remember that time will be of the essence, so be sure to factor in enough time over the move weekend to set up, configure and test all equipment before staff arrive on the first morning.
