Safety Tips during Office Relocation
Office Relocation Safety Tips
An office relocation can bring about health and safety concerns, particularly during your packing schedule and moving day. This article will give you some safety tips to follow during an office relocation so that damage and disruption are minimized (or eliminated entirely) to your business and its staff.
First Steps
Establish a timeline of events and list of tasks using our range of Office Move Checklists. They will detail all the important tasks that need to be completed in the run up to your office move. Having a good understanding of what needs to be done will ensure you avoid mistakes and last minute panics. Communicate clearly to staff why some tasks need to be done, when, and why they need to be done early.
Packing Up Your Office
When it comes to packing up your office, a good Office Moving Company will help to keep hazards at bay. They will organize a workable packing schedule around your business. When packing, be sure to keep the hallways clear from clutter.
Boxes and containers can be placed in a common area if there is not enough room in the work space to pack and store them. Remember to label everything clearly and mark any boxes that need to stay upright.
Lifting/Moving
Staff should not be asked or expected to lift any boxes. These should all be handled by your Office Moving Company who are used to handling heavy goods. Boxes should be closed and taped shut. They should also be light enough for one person to carry safely.
If your staff do not get involved with lifting any of your boxes/crates make sure they use good lifting techniques and (i) do not lift boxes above their shoulder and (ii) get as close as possible to the box before attempting to lift.
Access Issues
Another important aspect of planning an office move is to ensure that your Office Moving Company are familiar with any access issues to and from both properties. Ensure that adequate parking is available so that loading/unloading is easy for them, and carry out a pre-move tour before your move day so the Moving Company can identify and anticipate any safety concerns or access issues.
