Square Footage per Employee for USA
Planning Office Space needs per Employee
Working out what size office is best for your business when you move office can often seem confusing. If you want to work out the amount of square footage you'll need for your new office, the most common method is to allocate a certain amount of square feet per employee based on industry standards and best practice.
In the USA, the general rule of thumb is to allow between 175 to 250 useable square feet per employee - although this may vary according to your business type and the individual needs of your employees. If you are using an open, desk layout, you can fit more. If you need private / cellular office space, kitchen area, large workstations, etc, you may need to increase that number.
One of the easiest ways to calculate your office space requirements is to use the FREE Office Space Calculator from HelpMovingOffice. Simply input the number of employees, meeting rooms required and other office facilities to get an approximate idea of how much office space you need.
You will also need to factor in extra office space for any future growth likely to happen during your office lease term, as you don't want to outgrow your office space too quickly. Adding an additional 10% should be a sufficient when planning your office space requirements.
